There are 294 COVID-19 patients admitted to the hospital, says Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong.

He said on Saturday, while the country recorded six new COVID-19 deaths for the period of July 29 to July 30, 28 patients were admitted at the Lautoka hospital.

Dr Fong said 81 patients were in Suva and were admitted at the FEMAT field hospital and 185 were admitted at the CWM Hospital, St Giles, and Makoi.

He said 56 patients were considered to be in severe condition and 11 were in critical condition.

And as the country recorded 1121 new cases of COVID-19 for the 24-hour period that ended at 8am on Saturday, Dr Fong said 241 cases were from the Western Division and 880 cases were from the Central Division.

He said there were 510 new recoveries reported since the last update, so there were now 21,707 active cases.

Dr Fong said there were no active cases in the Northern and Eastern divisions.

He said there had been 29,711 cases during the outbreak that started in April 2021.

“We have recorded a total of 29,781 cases in Fiji since the first case was reported in March 2020, with 7705 recoveries.”
