226 bridges on Viti Levu at risk: Usamate

THE Fiji Roads Authority has identified 226 bridges that are at risk in Viti Levu alone that needs to be fixed.

This was highlighted by Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate who also said those bridges were located on the Queens Road.

He said they were categorised as extremely high-priority bridges.,

He said an additional 26 similar infrastructures were located on the Kings Road.

Since the inception of FRA, Mr Usamate said the Government had put more emphasis on fixing road infrastructures in order to strengthen the transportation system.

“FRA is now responsible for $11billion worth of assets, out of which $6billion is depreciating assets,” Mr Usamate said.

“This includes approximately 7600 km of road networks made up of both sealed and unsealed road, 47 jetties, 8220 streetlights, 370km of footpaths; and over 1200 bridges across the country.”
