The Fiji Men’s and Mixed Netball Association (FMMNA) received a boost of $20,000 from Motibhai Group of Companies ahead of its upcoming National Championships.
The competition, which returns after two years, has attracted interest from district teams around the country with Savusavu confirmed as the farthest travelling side so far.
Thirty-seven teams have confirmed their participation in the two-day tournament which will for the first time have an under-19 category.
Realising the value and importance of men’s netball, Motibhai has taken a bold step to sponsor the association, continuing their legacy of supporting sports for local, regional and international meets.
“It is with great honour and privilege that the Motibhai Group through its distribution agency of Rexona and its supplier Unilever International to support what is expected to be the netball showdown of the year,” said Unilever sales manager Ronil.
FMMNA president Myron Williams said a bold sponsorship as such trickled down to the grassroot level and fostered the growth of men’s netball.
“Men’s and mixed netball is not a major sport but we are at a critical juncture in history where men’s netball is needed to boost even women’s netball globally,” Williams said.
“You’re writing history by backing us and we hope when we look back, we will know that you’re one of the people that pushed us to the international stage.
“This means a lot for our districts because this trickles down to the grassroot level. It will touch every person at the grassroot level.”
The tournament will see five grades competing for supremacy at the National Netball Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva from December 1-2.
The grades are U19, U23 and under, open men, open mixed and mixed masters which is for players above the age of 35.
