ONE of the greatest threats for the 2022 General Election is how the overseas media is going to report on the elections, says Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem.

He said this at the media conference yesterday.

“One of the greatest threats for this election is how the overseas media, who are flying into the country from November, are going to report on the elections, as opposed to all of you who are here from the last four years at least, who have the full contextual knowledge about the election,” Mr Saneem said.

“We have seen this in the questions that they’re asking.

“We’ve seen this in the manner in which they’re reporting.

“But the most fascinating part of this is that they don’t come and attend all the press conferences and then hold themselves out as the people who know about all the information that needs to be there and then misinform people in their countries,” he said.

Mr Saneem said the FEO regularly conducted media watch.

“We have decided that we will do a media watch on the manner in which articles were published, following the Fijian Elections Office’s publication of the letter from the NFP and the response from the Fijian Elections Office.”
