A MULTI-BILLION-DOLLAR investment pipeline featuring 57 projects across Fiji is set to deliver more than 5600 new hotel rooms to boost the national economy.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka revealed the figures while opening the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association’s HOTEC 2026 tradeshow in Nadi yesterday.

“This marketplace matters for a practical reason. Investment Fiji is tracking 57 tourism investment projects across the country,” Mr Gavoka said.

“Together, they carry about 5600 new rooms and an investment value of around $2.1 billion,” he added.

Mr Gavoka said 19 of those projects, which involved a total of 1460 rooms, were already under construction.

He added 19 of the 57 investment projects were in Nadi.

He urged tourism operators and property developers to capitalise on regional supply chains to build, equip and furnish the upcoming properties.

“Every one of those rooms has to be built, furnished, equipped and supplied. Suppliers, that is your market.

“Developers and operators, the products you need are on this floor.”

Mr Gavoka emphasised that sourcing products locally or from regional Pacific partners reduced carbon footprints while ensuring visitor expenditure remained directly within local communities.

“When those goods come from Fiji, or from our neighbours in New Zealand, Australia and New Caledonia, they travel a shorter distance.

“That means a smaller carbon footprint, and more of what our visitors spend stays with farmers and small suppliers in our region.”

The two-day industry tradeshow at the Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort and Spa has attracted commercial exhibitors from Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Canada, Japan and the United States.

Mr Gavoka described the annual gathering as an essential marketplace for the national hospitality sector.
