Supervisor of Elections and Registrar of Political Parties Mohammed Saneem has been sued by lawyer Adish Narayan and his Nadi-based law firm, AK Lawyers.

A writ was filed in the High Court in Lautoka on October 28 against Mr Saneem for alleged defamation.

Mr Narayan and AK Lawyers were engaged by National Federation Party leader Prof Biman Prasad after Mr Saneem referred him to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption for an alleged breach of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act.

Mr Saneem has alleged Prof Prasad donated more than $10,000 in 2017 to NFP when the Act allows a maximum donation of $10,000 per annum.

The writ alleges Mr Narayan and AK Lawyers demanded an apology from Mr Saneem but have not received one.

The writ also alleges that both Mr Narayan and AK Lawyers have “been gravely injured in their credit and reputation and in their profession”.

They are seeking damages, aggravated damages, punitive or exemplary damages, interest and costs.

Prof Prasad told this newspaper Mr Narayan had informed him of the legal action.

Mr Saneem yesterday told The Fiji Times he won’t be making any comments on the court action.

“The court proceedings have timelines for all parties and the registrar will take the required actions within the timeline,” he said.
