Westpac Fiji and the Kaiviti Silktails Rugby League Football Club have launched a financial education programme aimed at helping players, staff and primary school students develop practical money management skills.
The initiative expands the partnership between the two organisations beyond rugby league, with Westpac Fiji to open bank accounts for all Silktails players and provide financial literacy training covering budgeting, saving, planning and money management.
Kaiviti Silktails chairman Petero Civoniceva said the initiative was about preparing players for life beyond sport.
“Our partnership with Westpac Fiji is helping us support our players as people, not only as athletes,” Mr Civoniceva said.
“Giving them access to banking support and financial training is an important part of preparing them for life on and off the field.”
The partnership will also extend into primary schools through the Silktails’ #CatchPassProgram.
Westpac Fiji representatives will join the club during school visits around the country, combining rugby league activities with age-appropriate financial education.
The programme is designed to introduce children to basic financial concepts and encourage good money habits from an early age.
Westpac Fiji will also sponsor the monthly Westpac Values Clubman Award as part of the expanded partnership.
Westpac Head of Corporate Affairs, Marketing and Community Rachel White said sport provided an opportunity to connect financial education with young Fijians.
“The partnership gives Westpac a practical way to support young Fijian people through sport and education,” Ms White said.
“Opening accounts for the players and delivering financial literacy training means we can support them with practical skills that will help them now and in the future.”
The financial literacy sessions for players, staff and school students form part of the broader partnership between Westpac Fiji and the Kaiviti Silktails launched earlier this year.
