A total of 18 teams will participate in the Western Rally Volleyball Championship which will be played at the multi-purpose courts in Lautoka this Saturday.

The tournament will serve as selection for the national squad in preparation for the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.

Fiji Volleyball Federation president Kemueli Naiqama says there will be nine teams each in the men’s and women’s divisions.

He said the Western Rally would feature three affiliated associations.

“They include Nadi, Lautoka and North West Fiji,” Naiqama said.

“The North West Fiji Volleyball Association is made up of teams from Tavua and Rakiraki. There will be pool play before the eliminations.

“We do not have a sponsor at the moment. We are using all our sanctioned tournaments for selections. Some names were dotted during the National Club Championship that was held last November.

“There were some players spotted at the Hot Bread Kitchen Vulaca Championship in Suva last week.

“It will also be done at the Western Rally and two other upcoming tournaments.”

The next event will be the Vanua Challenge followed by the Easter Championship.

“We will announce the names of the players who will represent the country after the Easter Championship. The venue for Vanua Challenge and Easter Championship is yet to be determined.

“Our main international focus is the Pacific Games.”

The Pacific Games will be held in Honiara from November 19 to December 2.
