A family from Nausori, including a husband, wife and their nine-year-old daughter, were among four people who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Vatukoula this morning.
The victims have been identified as 43-year-old Ajeet Kumar, his wife Shonika Kumar, their nine-year-old daughter, and a female relative.
A family member said the family had travelled to Vatukoula to attend a wedding and were returning to Rakiraki, where they were expected to stay at the home of Mrs Kumar’s mother.
It is alleged the vehicle, driven by Mr Kumar went into the Nasivi river around 1am today.
National Fire Authority and nearby villagers tried to rescue the occupants of the vehicle.
The four occupants were rushed to Tavua Hospital, where medical officials later confirmed their deaths.
A fifth passenger who was travelling in the vehicle survived the crash and escaped serious injury.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident are continuing.
