The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Ro Jone Kalouniwai, says the military will await the outcome of a police investigation before providing further details into the death of an individual at a military facility.
“We will follow the Police and come back to you,” Ro Kalouniwai told the media at Bau landing this evening.
Earlier today, officers from the Fiji Police Force were called in to investigate the incident, with only limited information currently available.
It is understood the individual had been taken into custody in relation to a recent attempted break-in at the RFMF armoury.
In a brief statement, police confirmed the case is now under active investigation.
“We can confirm receipt of a report of a case of interest whereby an individual had lost his life at the said facility, which is now under investigation. We will release more details soon,” the statement read.
Authorities have yet to disclose the circumstances surrounding the death as investigations continue.
