Vunikodi Village in Udu, Macuata, which has long faced a continuous water crisis, will soon see those challenges become a thing of the past.
This follows the recent arrival of a team from the Water Authority of Fiji to carry out pipeline extension works from Nukudamu to Vunikodi.
This was confi rmed to this newspaper by the Rural and Maritime Development Minister Mosese Bulitavu.
“The terrain is quite challenging, but the team has reached key sections and installation is expected to be completed around September,” he said.
Mr Bulitavu said the development would be a significant boost for residents of Vunikodi who currently rely entirely on rainwater harvesting for daily water needs.
“The project will improve access to safe drinking water and reduce health risks associated with contaminated or unreliable water sources.”
Once completed, he said, the system would provide long-term benefi ts to households in the area and improve resilience during dry seasons.
“The expansion demonstrates government’s commitment to ensuring rural communities are not left behind in infrastructure development.”
