Jone Vono Jr’s soccer story is about loyalty and how being true to the district that gave him his first break has paid dividends.

The Lautoka Football Association (LFA) discovered him in 2001 when he was a 17-year-old Form Six student at Tilak High School.

He has stayed true to the boys in blue ever since.

He said LFA had seen him through his biggest challenges and the money earned from football had helped him look after his parents and his own family of five, which included four children.

“Lautoka Football Association has been with me through tough times,” the 36-year-old said.

“This district is my life.”

He began playing for the district in 2002 and is best remembered for slotting in one of the winning penalty kicks against Nasinu in the Fiji FACT final that year.

Vono Jr has been named in the Lautoka squad to play in this weekend’s Punjas Battle of the Giants tournament at Churchill Park.
