Volcanic ash from the ongoing eruption of the Manaro Voui volcano on Ambae Island in Vanuatu has spread into Fiji airspace, forcing Fiji Airways to cancel a number of regional and domestic flights today.
The airline says the ash cloud is affecting both Vanuatu and Fiji airspace, leading to the cancellation of flights to Port Vila and Funafuti, as well as several domestic services to Taveuni, Savusavu, Labasa and Cicia.
Fiji Airways says passenger safety remains its highest priority and operations will continue to be reviewed as the volcanic ash cloud moves across the region.
Affected passengers are being contacted directly and will be offered alternative travel arrangements where available.
The airline is also urging travellers to check the status of their flights regularly on the Fiji Airways website.
The disruptions follow the continued eruption of the Manaro Voui volcano, with Vanuatu’s Geological Hazards Department maintaining Alert Level 3.
