THE State has requested a final 14-day adjournment to obtain a statement from the next of kin of deceased former Fiji Police Force Narcotics Bureau officer Varinava Sabua before formally withdrawing charges against him.
The update was provided before Magistrate Joseph Daurewa in the Suva Magistrates Court today.
Mr Sabua, 47, was accused of engaging in unauthorised financial dealings between January 2023 and December 2024, allegedly obtaining a corrupt gain and benefit exceeding $22,000.
State prosecutor Reama Tavaiqia confirmed that while the prosecution already possesses Sabua’s death certificate, a final statement from his next of kin is still required to officially withdraw the matter.
Defence lawyer Amani Bale represented Mr Sabua.
Magistrate Daurewa adjourned the case to November 30.
