The Ba Provincial Council has called on village headmen and traditional leaders across the province to ensure their people were following COVID-19 safety protocols after the discovery of positive cases within villages.
Council Roko Tui Rupeni Kunaturaga said the virus had not left the Ba Province and it was important villagers adhered to the strict protocols to ensure the disease did not spread to other parts of the region.
“We are requesting the people of the Ba Province to stay focused on the task that we need to be doing,” he said.
“We need to fight this virus by staying at home, by getting the vaccination and by following our COVID-safe measures and restrictions.
“People should only be leaving their homes if they have to go to work or to the hospital or to get essential supplies for their homes.”
He said movements from one containment zone to another would also depend on the Ministry of Health’s approval.
“Movement will only be granted by the Ministry of Health and if those that want to move have been vaccinated.
“This includes moving to the Yasawa or Vanua Levu.
“I am encouraging our village headmen and leaders to urge their villagers to get vaccinated as it will help protect us and our loved ones.”
The Ba Province has the highest number of active and new cases with the majority reported in Lautoka, Ba, Tavua and Nadi.
