Fiji is one of the regional vice presidents of the International Solar Alliance which is an alliance of more than 100 countries initiated by India with the primary objective of efficient consumption of solar energy to reduce dependence of fossil fuels, says Minister for Infrastructure, Meteorological Services, Lands and Mineral Resources, Jone Usamate.

He made this statement during a courtesy visit from India’s High Commissioner Palaniswamy Subramanyan Karthigeyan.

Mr Usamate said they were committed to advancing bilateral relations and thanked the Indian government for their continued support towards Fiji’s development.

“The ministry has significant co-operation with India in the infrastructure sector, particularly with the energy sector,” he said.

“We thank the Government of India for the immense support assistance it has provided in the form of capacity building and technical assistance towards our energy sector and Fiji’s transition to renewable energy.”

Discussions focused on other areas of mutual interest, and the minister stated that he was looking forward to collaborating in the areas of infrastructure, lands, and mineral resources through the High Commission.
