The National Union of Workers (NUW) has called on its members at the three Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) mills to return to work from midnight after reaching agreement with management on all outstanding industrial issues.
The breakthrough came following a meeting in Nadi this afternoon, convened by the Minister for Employment and facilitated by officials from the Ministry of Employment, including the Deputy Permanent Secretary and the Director of Labour Standards Services.
According to the union, three issues were under dispute: roster backpay, the Collective Agreement and the roster for the 2026 crushing season.
The parties agreed that calculations for workers’ backpay will be completed and a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed on 9 July 2026.
They also reached agreement on all outstanding matters relating to the Collective Agreement covering tradesmen, clerks and general employees. The updated agreement is scheduled to be signed on 28 July 2026.
The union said both parties also reached consensus on the 2026 crushing season rosters, which will take effect immediately.
The NUW thanked the Minister for Employment and his team for intervening to help resolve the dispute.
The union also acknowledged the cooperation of FSC management in reaching an amicable settlement.
With the issues resolved, the NUW has called on all its members at the Lautoka, Rarawai and Labasa mills to report for duty in accordance with the agreed rosters from midnight tonight, clearing the way for the 2026 sugar crushing season to proceed.
