Two children were injured after an electrical explosion at Civic House in Suva yesterday.
The children were reportedly on their way to meet their guardian and had taken the staircase after the building’s lift was found to be out of service.
It is understood they were passing near an electrical switchboard when it exploded, causing both children to suffer burns to their bodies.
They were rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
The circumstances surrounding the incident, including what caused the electrical switchboard to malfunction, remain unclear.
Police have been contacted for comment.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations has advised that its offices on Levels 1, 4 and 5 of Civic House are temporarily closed until further notice.
The ministry said NEC queries could be directed to Post Fiji on Level 4, while Legal and Productivity matters could be attended to at Post Fiji on Level 2.
