FORMER Natabua High School sprinter and 2026 Coca-Cola Games double gold medallist Mesake Turuva is preparing for another milestone after earning a place in Nadroga’s Skipper Cup under-20 final next week.
Turuva, who won gold in the 400 metres and 4×400 metres at this year’s Coca-Cola Games, made a significant contribution to Nadroga’s 48-31 semi-final victory over Suva, scoring two tries to help his side secure a place in the decider.
For the Narewa, Waicoba, Nadroga native, the double was an unexpected highlight in his emerging rugby career.
“I feel surprised. I couldn’t believe that I would score two tries today (yesterday), so I thank God Almighty for the strength He gave me to score these two tries, and all glory goes back to Him,” he said.
Beyond his try-scoring ability, Turuva’s strength, ball-carrying skills and decision-making under pressure have attracted the attention of Fiji under-20 head coach Tui Osborne.
“He’s one of the players we are looking at as well,” Osborne said.
“He’s got some good strength and converted a few tries, thanks to the hard work of his centres and fullback.”
