The National Disaster Management Office in collaboration with the Seismology Unit of the Department of Mineral Resources will be conducting live tests on the tsunami sirens on Thursday (November 5, 2020) between at 1pm-2pm.
A statement from the NDMO stated the exercise was aligned to the Government’s commitment in ensuring its state of readiness should any tsunami event occur.
The tsunami sirens are installed in the following areas:
- WAF Kinoya building
- FINTEL – Vatuwaqa
- RFMF Officers Training School – Vatuwaqa
- USP Statham Campus
- USP Laucala Marine Campus
- USP Main Campus
- MILO Exercise Park, Nasese
- FNU Nasese Building
- iTaukei Affairs Building
- Civic Car park buidling
- Biosecurity, Suva
- Government Shipping Services – Walu Bay
- Lami Post Office
Members of the public are advised that evacuation will not be required.
However, communities and businesses along the Suva peninsula and foreshore are advised to use this tsunami siren test to identify and test their evacuation procedures in terms of their designated safe route and safe assembly areas/zones.
