Trio front court on illicit drug charge

THREE people appeared in court last week on separate cases of alleged unlawful possession of illicit drugs, namely methamphetamine and cocaine.

According to a police statement, the three, Sanjesh Chand, Roneel Kumar and Praneeta Kumar, were arrested as part of joint taskforce efforts in partnership with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

“In the first raid conducted on the July 23, 2026, at Naikabula, Lautoka, the suspect was arrested following the discovery of two plastics containing crystals confirmed to be cocaine weighing 45.2 grams and $3155 in cash,” police said.

“The accused (Chand) was charged and produced at the Lautoka Magistrate’s Court and remanded at the Natabua Corrections Centre.”

The police statement said the second raid conducted on July 28 at Sabeto, Nadi, plastic bags of white crystals confirmed to be methamphetamine weighing 21.3 grams, dried leaves tested positive for marijuana and $4850 cash were seized.

“A couple (Roneel Kumar and Praneeta Kumar) was arrested at the residence. They were charged and produced at the Nadi Magistrate’s Court on Friday, July 31, 2026, and remanded at the Natabua Corrections Centre.

“The case will be recalled on August 5, 2026.”

According to police, the estimated street value of both seizures was more than $23,000.
