Fiji National Rugby League acting chief executive officer Don Natabe says the APCO Fiji 9s Series has set a platform in the development of women and young men in rugby league.

Natabe said the inclusion of women and youths in the sport had made competition exciting and provided equal representation, not only domestically but as they prepare teams for the international calendar.

“We had been lucky to have the Fijian Bulikula officially launched in 2019, but unfortunately for the past years, we haven’t had international fixtures for women, so we are hoping that we have a fixture for women this year,” he said.

“It is good to finally welcome our women back on to the field and we have seen the indepth of knowledge that our girls and women have.

“The Fiji 9s Series is a great pathway for our women to participate and we look forward to seeing some action from our women.”

On Thursday, the Yasawa Saints was crowned the winner of the women’s catergory of the APCO Fiji 9s Series at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

The Saints beat Blue Gas Police Blue 4-0 in the final.

Natabe thanked APCO Coating for supporting FNRL to help create opportunities and expose talents from the grassroots community.
