Toll free line for census queries

FIJIANS can contact the Fiji Bureau of Statistics through a toll free line set up to cater for members of the public during the 2017 Fiji Population and Housing Census.

Any member of the public who has a query can contact 5151 and will be assisted by an official from the Bureau from 8am to 10pm daily.

Bureau senior statistician Emali Soderberg said ever since they opened the toll free line, they had been receiving on average about 10 calls per day.

“The toll free line was set up to answer queries and receive feedback from the public about the 2017 Fiji Population and Housing Census,” Ms Soderberg said.

She said queries so far were on:

* types of indicators derived from the census questions;

* when households will be enumerated;

* what to look for when a person comes knocking to enumerate the households; and

* why photos of the sticker on the front doors are being taken?

She said anyone could call the toll free line.

“We ask that the public be careful of the impostors out there.

“Be vigilant with your checks — check for the valid photo ID cards as well as the yellow fluorescent reflector jackets that should have the Census logo on the back as well as the front left,” Ms Soderberg said.

“Also we would like to thank the Fiji Police Force and the public, who have been very supportive and co-operative to the enumerators who are currently out on the field.

“We have had a few concerned citizens call us up, to give feedback on the enumerators and the enumeration process.”
