The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) has received appropriate sublease consent requirements for the premises at Narere, which is also occupied by a supermarket.
According to the TLTB, a recent inspection of the premises showed that six subleases, including New World Supermarket, were in occupation without the required prior written consent obtained from the TLTB.
“This was in breach of the requirements of section 12 of the iTaukei Land Trust Act 1940 in that any sublease entered into without the consent of TLTB is unlawful,” the TLTB stated.
“The appropriate actions have been addressed by TLTB with its tenant and the six sublessees, including New World Supermarket.
“TLTB has since received the appropriate sublease consent requirements from its tenant and New World Supermarket will continue with its operations as normal.
“TLTB must stress to all its tenants the need to fully comply with the terms of their leases to avoid being sanctioned for non-compliance or breach.”
It stated that in upholding the best interests of the iTaukei landowners, it would continue to closely monitor tenants’ compliance with lease conditions accordingly.
