HIGH school student Vasenai Tabu Talakuli is taking her love for her community to the stage, advocating for a safer digital space as a contestant in the Vodafone Rakiraki carnival.
The 18-year-old Year 13 student at Nakauvadra High School is from Navuniivi, Nakorotubu, Ra, with maternal ties to Namuaimada, Rakiraki, Ra.
Sponsored by Waqatabu Handicraft, Ms Talakuli views the carnival as a platform to inspire young people, build her confidence and make a meaningful impact.
Central to her campaign is raising awareness about online safety, a topic she selected after seeing its growing impact on youth.
“I chose online safety as my advocacy because it is an issue that affects many people in our community, especially young people,” she said.
“In today’s digital world, we spend a lot of time online, so it is important to promote awareness and encourage everyone to think before they click.
“I believe that by educating our community, we can help create a safer and more responsible environment.”
The 2026 Vodafone Rakiraki Carnival officially opened last Saturday at Davui Grounds in Rakiraki.
