TEAM Fiji’s Glasgow 2026 campaign was celebrated last Saturday as athletes were formally recognised at a thanksgiving dinner at the Holiday Inn, Suva.
Commonwealth Games gold medallist Taniela Rainibogi and boxing’s brinze medallist Jasmine Daunakamakama received their reward cheques from Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru at the Holiday Inn.
Rainibogi was presented with a $15,000 cheque following his gold-medal performance in weightlifting, while Daunakamakama received $5000 after making history as the first Fijian woman to win a Commonwealth Games boxing medal.
The remaining Team Fiji athletes were presented with certificates for their contribution to Fiji’s campaign.
Saukuru told the athletes the evening was an opportunity to celebrate their efforts and the pride they brought to the country.
“Today we celebrate you, our athletes,” Saukuru said.
He said the recognition marked an important milestone for Fiji and acknowledged the commitment of the athletes who represented the country on the Commonwealth stage.
“This award marks a milestone for Fiji,” he said.
The thanksgiving dinner brought together athletes, officials, families and supporters to reflect on Fiji’s campaign in Glasgow.
Rainibogi’s gold medal and Daunakamakama’s historic boxing medal were among Fiji’s standout achievements at the Games.
The event also recognised the wider Team Fiji contingent, with certificates presented to athletes for their participation and contribution.
Saukuru thanked the athletes for their commitment and for representing Fiji with pride on the Commonwealth stage.
