Police HQ to relocate

The Fiji Police Headquarters will soon be relocated from Centrepoint in Nasinu to the old Parliament complex in Veiuto, Suva.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe confirmed the move yesterday, saying the Government had approved the relocation.

“The Government, through the Prime Minister, has given to police the approval of shifting the police HQ,” he said.

He said funding previously provided by the Australian government through the Australian Federal Police for the construction of a new police headquarters would instead be used to renovate the old Parliament complex.

“So, the fund that was given by Australia to build a new one will be used to renovate,” he said.

The development comes after AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw met Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua earlier this year to discuss police support, AI capabilities and the development of the new headquarters.
