Suva eyes Vanua crowns

After dominating the Hot Bread Kitchen Vulaca volleyball competition over the weekend, champion Suva volleyball teams have set its eyes on the Vanua and Eastern Championship.

Suva won both the men’s and women’s title as the hosts sides cements its position as the local volleyball powerhouse after former men’s champion Raiwai bowed out in the quarterfinal against Suva White at the FMF Gymnasium.

The men’s side defeated Kinoya by three straight sets in the final at the while the women beat a Delainavesi Black by three straight sets.

Women’s captain Ulamila Karisitiana said they were overwhelmed with the win despite the short time frame for training.

“We thank the Suva Volleyball Association committee for organising the training session for us that enabled us to win the tournament,” she said.

Karisitiana, who is no stranger to volleyball, led the Fiji Police volleyball team to defend the Sukuna Volleyball title for a fourth consecutive year last year.

The next competition on Fiji Volleyball’s calendar is the Western Rally.
