A resort worker at a popular Coral Coast property says he is facing great difficulty in meeting his family’s basic needs because he only works two days a week.
Tuiwaitui Sogo said things were starting to pick up until five weeks ago when new containment measures were enforced because of the second wave of COVID-19.
The 36-year-old bartender said it was “very hard” to meet water and electricity bills and other expenses with the reduced income.
“My wife and I have five children and we had to do some big readjustments at home because of this,” he said.
“I get through each day because of the support from my wife and work colleagues – we continue to encourage each other through prayers and phone calls.
“I don’t know what will happen when school starts on June 21 because of stationery, lunches and transport costs for my kids.”
Mr Sogo said he had planted cassava, dalo and vegetables in their backyard garden to help feed the family.
“It will take some time to mature, so we will just go easy with what we have right now.”
The Daliconi, Vanuabalavu, Lau, man has been a bartender for the past 10 years.
