The FIJI Water Flying Fijians team has achieved the goals set so far and preparation for the Rugby World Cup is on track.

Head coach Simon Raiwalui said this after he named his 33-member squad to the World Cup in Lautoka yesterday.

Raiwalui said the build-up had been great so far, and the team was headed in the right direction.

“We had an amazing build-up in terms of preparation. We got to try three different combinations against Tonga, Samoa and Japan. We were able to come away with victories, but we understand the challenges in front,” the former national captain said.

The focus now turns to the test matches against France and England, the only remaining matches before we play Wales in our RWC opener.

“We have got two huge challenges lined up. We fly out to Europe this weekend. We have two Tests against France and England and then we have Wales first up at the World Cup,” Raiwalui said.

“We have been at the attitude of taking one game at a time from the start, so we have to match a very good French team at home next.”

Raiwalui named 18 forwards and 13 backline players in his squad to this year’s tournament.

Notable missing names from the final squad are Ben Volavola, Joseva Tamani, Seta Tamanivalu and Vilimoni Botitu.

AT A GLANCE:

  • The Flying Fijians take on France in their next test on August 20 and then face England a week later on August 27.
  • The first match at the RWC is against Wales at 7am on Monday, September 11.
