Mere Niumataiwalu has been appointed as the new Cluster HR and Training manager for the Grand Pacific Hotel and Holiday Inn in Suva.

Ms Niumataiwalu brings 14 years of experience from the Water Authority of Fiji, including 11 years in human resources, most recently serving as head of HR Operations.

Her new role will oversee workforce strategy across both properties as the Suva hospitality sector continues to grow and evolve.

She will lead human resources and training for both hotels, with responsibilities covering employee relations, talent development, and workplace culture.

She will also work closely with department leaders to build strong, engaged teams and support consistent delivery of guest experiences.

Ms Niumataiwalu’s cluster-level role will support more integrated approach to people and culture across the two properties, aligning HR strategy with operational priorities, workforce wellbeing, and retention.

The appointment also aligns with broader global trends in the hospitality sector, where continued growth in travel demand is placing greater emphasis on workforce capability and service delivery.

Regional director of Human Resources for Fiji and the Pacific Alvin Prasad said Ms Niumataiwalu’s appointment reflected a deliberate investment in experienced local talent to strengthen organisational capability, support team development, and deliver long-term business performance.

“Her extensive experience across human resources and her strong focus on employee wellbeing and development will play a critical role in strengthening our teams, supporting retention, and ensuring we continue to deliver meaningful and consistent guest experiences across our Suva properties,” Mr Prasad said.

He said it also reflected the importance placed on attracting and developing high-caliber local talent within businesses.

Ms Niumataiwalu’s appointment came into effect on May 4.
