The Fiji Navy has confirmed that the six people reported missing at sea in the Lau Group have been found safe, bringing a successful end to a major search and rescue operation.
In a statement, the Navy said the six were located about 11 nautical miles southwest of Lakeba by the Goundar Shipping vessel Lomaiviti Princess 12.
All six were rescued safely.
The Navy thanked mariners and vessels operating in the area for responding quickly to the search effort, with special acknowledgement given to the captain and crew of Lomaiviti Princess 12 for locating and rescuing the missing group.
It also acknowledged the efforts of government agencies, search teams, communities and individuals who worked together during the operation.
The Navy said the successful rescue highlighted the importance of cooperation and vigilance among government agencies and the maritime community.
The six healthcare workers had been reported missing while travelling from Moce to Oneata on a Ministry of Health outreach mission after their vessel developed engine problems and began taking on water.
