FOLLOWING a search and rescue operation for a missing fibreglass boat carrying six people between Namuka and Fulaga last week, the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) continues to urge all mariners to strictly adhere to weather warnings.
MSAF has reminded all vessel owners and small-boat operators of their regulatory safety obligations and the need to take all necessary precautions before departure.
MSAF also reminded vessel owners and small-boat operators to ensure their vessels are seaworthy and have all necessary life-saving appliances.
This includes working communication gear, excess fuel, distress flares and life jackets for everyone on board.
MSAF said safety at sea was a shared responsibility.
“Listening to weather advice and preparing properly can prevent incidents and save lives,” the authority said.
