THE Fiji Bitter Marist 7s, the final tournament of the Fiji Bitter 7s series, was launched at the head office of Paradise Beverages Fiji Limited in Walu Bay, Suva yesterday.
Tournament officials gathered for the launch as Fiji Bitter events and sponsorship specialist Alfaio Tekavei, president of the Marist Rugby Club Lawrence Tikaram and tournament coordinator Kolinio Korovulavula signed the tournament into life.
Tekavei urged teams to participate in the tournament, now in its 49th year of competition and the chance for everyone to witness great rugby action in their “own backyard”.
The tournament’s launch was also a chance for all to refresh themselves with the progression of the Fiji Bitter 7s series so far, which began in Kadavu last October and reached Wairiki in December.
In the current team standings, BLK Lavidi Brothers leads the men’s category with 674.891 points, Devo Babas are in second with 562.871, and Police Blue with 553.286 points.
Wardens lead the women’s category with 96.460 points, the Blue Gas Lilian Amazons with 83.695 points and Tagimoucia with 69.255 points.
Meanwhile, other tournament launches for the Nahehevia and Nawaka legs in the series are to follow in due course.
