THE parliamentary seat held by the late Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Sugar Industry Inosi Kuridrani will remain vacant until the next General Election, the Electoral Commission has confirmed.
Mr Kuridrani died on September 27.
The commission said under Section 64(1) of the Constitution, a vacant seat held by a political party member is normally awarded to the highest-ranked available candidate from the same party.
However, Section 64(3) states that if a vacancy occurs more than three years and six months after the first sitting of Parliament following the last election, the seat remains vacant.
The Commission said that period elapsed on June 24, 2026, and no replacement process would be undertaken.
