FAKE news is a threat to an electoral process, says Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem.

Mr Saneem said this during a forum on electoral processes held at the Holiday Inn Suva on Wednesday.

“There are official channels and information that we publish on official channels should be given the first light of credibility, but the informal media is where it could just go like wild fire,” Mr Saneem said.

“Not an information that is forwarded or re-tweeted by a political party, if it’s something that is published by us we would appreciate if that is given credibility.”

He added fake news could have a detrimental effect during the election period. ||
