Saimoni Rokotunidau, who is charged with the attempted murder of Police Constable Senoveva Tikoduadua, has been further remanded in custody by the High Court in Suva.
Mr Rokotunidau appeared before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere today after being arrested on a bench warrant for failing to appear in court as required under his bail conditions.
Justice Tuiqereqere said Mr Rokotunidau would remain in custody while the court considers the issue of his bail.
The judge also directed police to take Mr Rokotunidau to hospital today for medical assessment of his face.
Justice Tuiqereqere said Mr Rokotunidau’s condition appeared to require specialised treatment and directed police to take him to see a doctor immediately.
The matter has been adjourned to August 25 at 9.30am.
The court also directed Mr Rokotunidau to file an affidavit explaining why he failed to appear in court and why he allegedly breached his bail conditions.
