Fiji will see more students sitting national external examinations this year, as the Ministry of Education confirmed a steady increase in candidates across Year 8, Year 12, and Year 13 levels.

The announcement was made yesterday as part of National External Examination Dedication Service held at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva where students, teachers, parents, chaplains, and faith leaders gathered to pray and show support for the nation’s exam candidates.

According to the Ministry, a total of 41,140 students will sit for external exams this year, up from 40,445 in 2024.

In the Fiji Year 8 Certificate Examination, 19,007 students at 717 centres will take the exam, up from 18,973 in 2024. The pass rate last year was 68%.

In the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination, 13,113 students at 177 centres will sit for the examination, up from 12,868 in 2024. The pass rate last year was 76%

In the Fiji Year 13 Certificate Examination, 9,020 students at 174 centres will have their examination, up from 8,604 in 2024. The pass rate last year was 89%.

The dedication service provided a moment of reflection and unity as students prepare to begin their examinations in October and November.

Faith leaders offered prayers of strength and guidance, while education officials urged students to remain focused and take care of their wellbeing.
