THE RFNS Volasiga was commissioned at the Stanley Brown Naval base in Walu Bay, Suva, today.

Fiji’s Acting Minister for Defence Dr Mahendra Reddy said the new vessel would boost the work of the Fiji Hydrographic Office.

The new vessel was donated from the Republic of Korea at approximately US$3million (FJD$6.5m).

The RFNS Volasiga is a research vessel that is required to conduct a hydrographic survey, tides and currents observation, survey routes of sea routes and other surveys in Fiji waters.

The full report will be published in tomorrow’s edition of The Fiji Times.
