REWA FC moved to the top of Group B after producing a dominant performance to defeat Dayals Steels Ba FC 3-0 in their second pool match of the Extra Battle of the Giants tournament at 4R Stadium, Govind Park on Saturday night.

The victory strengthened Rewa’s position in the race for a semi-final spot, while Ba will now need a positive result in their remaining match to keep their hopes alive.

Rewa took the lead in the 40th minute through Brazilian import Lucas, who beat five Ba defenders before calmly placing the ball into the corner of the net.

Rewa went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

The side continued to control possession in the second half and extended its lead through Merrill Nand before Ivan Kumar added the third goal to seal a convincing victory.

Ba coach Ravinesh Kumar admitted his side was second best on the day and was punished for lapses in concentration.

“It was not our day. Rewa was the best team. We lost concentration on three occasions and that cost us three goals,” Kumar said.

Rewa coach-player Tevita Waranivalu said his team’s main objective was to secure the three points.

“We had a plan and we stuck to the plan. We really controlled the game in the second half,” Waranivalu said.
