Remittance inflows to Fiji continued their strong upward trend, rising 26.3 per cent to $875.2 million in the year to June, according to the Reserve Bank of Fiji’s latest July Economic Review.
The RBF said remittance outflows also increased, rising 15 per cent to $293.7 million over the same period.
As a result, net remittances grew by 32.9 per cent to $581.5 million, reflecting stronger growth in money sent into Fiji than funds transferred overseas.
The central bank attributed the sustained increase in inward remittances to Fiji’s expanding diaspora, continued participation in overseas employment schemes and improved access to digital and fintech-based remittance services.
Meanwhile, the increase in outward remittances was linked to the growing number of migrant workers residing in Fiji.
The RBF said the continued growth in remittances remains an important source of foreign exchange and household income, supporting economic activity across the country.
