Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka yesterday thanked members of the Vatukoula Gold Mines striking workers and their families that were present in a meeting at the Ba Civic Centre.

Mr Rabuka told them that there was light at the end of their 33 years of struggles when workers of the Vatukoula Gold Mines went on strike on February 27, 1991.

He said the workers had to go through many challenges for the past three decades.

“I thank God for giving another opportunity and opening another door to solve this matter,” he said.

Mr Rabuka said the Coalition Government was committed to addressing the needs of the people.

He also commended the Minister for Employment Agni Deo Singh and his team for reaching a resolution with a $9.2million payout announced during the 2024-2025 National Budget.

Meanwhile, Employment Minister Agni Deo Singh said the 185 members of the union will be receiving the $10,000 from August 1, while the 183 who went on strike and have passed away will need to be reviewed through a legal process.
