RA High School produced a composed second-half performance to upset defending champions Ratu Kadavulevu School 12-10 in their Vodafone Deans Trophy U18 quarter-final at Garvey Park in Tavua yesterday.
The two sides were locked at 5-all at halftime in a closely fought encounter, but Ra High returned from the break with a more structured tactical approach.
The improved game plan allowed Ra High to control key areas of the match, apply sustained pressure and disrupt RKS’s attacking rhythm.
RKS struggled to break through the disciplined Ra High defence as the underdogs held their nerve to secure a place in the semifinals.
Acting vice-principal Seruwaia Nasau said reaching the semifinal was already a significant achievement for the school.
“Coming to the Deans competition is history itself. Reaching the semifinal is a great achievement in itself,” Nasau said.
In another U18 quarter-final, Nasinu edged Cuvu College 27-26 in a thrilling encounter to book their semifinal spot.
In the Raluve U18 quarter-finals, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School defeated Jasper Williams High School 19-12, while defending U16 Raluve champions Sigatoka Methodist College defeated Suva Grammar School 27-20.
In the U15 quarter-final, Marist Brothers High School edged Natabua High School 13-10, while Ba Methodist High School defeated Gospel High School 22-19 in the U17 quarter-final to advance to the semifinals.
