THE McDonald’s Nadi Women’s team bounced back from their first loss of the season, defeating Nadroga Women 51-29 in Round Eight of the Subrails Marama Cup competition at Prince Charles Park in Nadi last Saturday.

Nadi captain Laisa Seru said the team used the defeat against Ba Women as motivation and returned to training determined to bounce back.

“First, we give back all the praises to God for allowing us this opportunity,” Seru said.

“Last week, our first loss of the season was a hard pill to swallow for us. We went back, reflected on it and made the girls stay hungry for the win today (Saturday).

“We are very grateful that we worked hard, held our foot and came out with the win.”

Seru said Nadroga tested Nadi’s forwards with a strong scrum, but her players remained composed and worked on their technique throughout the match.

“Nadroga is always a tough team to beat. Their scrum was heavy today (Saturday), heavier than us and bigger than us.

“But I am grateful the girls managed to work on our calls and our setting of the scrum. We managed to push some scrums out there.

“We will take our lessons and go back, look at it and see how we can do better for the next game.”

Nadi will now turn its attention to Namosi, the defending champions, with Seru expecting another tough challenge.

“Namosi is a defending champion, we will work on our fitness and stay in it. We will not get too comfortable with where we are at,” she said.

Seru also thanked the Nadi supporters for their continued backing and promised the team would continue fighting for them.

“Thank you for turning up today to support the girls. We will not let them down. If we had lost, we would not have come here. We will show them what we can do.”

Nadi will host Namosi this Saturday at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
