QUEEN Victoria School is quietly building momentum embracing an underdog mindset as the team focuses on next week’s Fiji Finals.
During an interview after the Tailevu Zone, school principal Waliki Nasau told Times Sport that his team would rise to another level.
“Our aim is to improve on last year’s performance and hopefully go one step further. But we know it won’t be easy, especially against strong Suva schools like Marist Brothers High School and Suva Grammar School,” he said.
“We thank the Lord for what has been achieved so far. The focus has not only been on performance but also on strengthening our coaching structures, and the work that started last year is now paying off.”
Looking ahead to the Coca-Cola Games, Nasau highlighted key areas the team is sharpening, particularly in middle-distance events and field events.
“The coaches are working closely with the boys to improve consistency, especially in jumps and throws, while ensuring our middle-distance runners are well prepared,” he said.
He also acknowledged the vital role played by experienced teachers who understand the demands of the competition.
“Our teachers are our main weapon. Many have been part of the system for years and know what is best for the students. Some of the boys have also competed at the Games before, so they understand what it takes.”
With preparations intensifying, QVS is determined to deliver a strong showing and challenge for top honours on Fiji’s biggest schools athletics competition.
Nasau credited a collective effort from coaches, teachers, old boys and parents for laying the foundation of their campaign.
