Qionimacawa Dropped

IMPRESSIVE Fiji Bati debutant in the game against the Papua New Guinea Kumuls, Etuate Qionimacawa was not included in the side to play in a Test match against Samoa in Apiua next Saturday.

Vodafone Fiji Bati coach Mick Potter, speaking to this newspaper via Skype from Sydney, Australia, yesterday said Qionimacawa, who scored a hat-trick on his debut played in a “very competitive position.”

“We have Tyrone Phillips at fullback. I want to have a look at him on the wing. I want to look at Marcelo Montoya whose being exceptional coming through the system, for Canterbury and have stepped up to be on standby for Canterbury for the last few weeks. I think we need to look at those couple of players,” Potter said.

He added he had seen Qionimacawa perform “and he had quite a good game, with a few things that probably need some work. I want to look at these guys and have a look at him. We certainly have a couple of other players still to come back into those positions, and Vunivalu is a possible for next year. I’m looking forward to this game to lead us into the World Cup in 2017,” Potter said.
