KIRIBATI tamed the stallions of Nadroga with a 6-0 thrashing in their final Premier pool clash at the 2026 FMF IDC yesterday.

The regional visitors continued their campaign after redeeming themselves from a 2-4 loss to Seaqaqa in their pool opener on Tuesday.

The victory also means Kiribati heads into the semi-finals of the division.

Speaking on their victory, team manager Bernard Tatireta thanked the Kiribati community in Suva, a majority of whom are students at the University of the South Pacific’s Laucala Campus, for turning up in large numbers to be the extra man off the field.

In thanking God for the win, he also described their victory over Nadroga as a “big wow.”

“It’s a big wow for all of us, the coaches, the officials and the players themselves,” Tatireta.

Meanwhile, Fiji FA chief executive Mohammed Yusuf also commended the Kiribati side for the win and explained what their participation at this year’s IDC meant for them.

“It will help their application for affiliation with OFC and FIFA. This is what they needed; to showcase their talent, that they are a football league nation,” Yusuf said.

He added since Fiji was their closest neighbour, it was Fiji FA’s social responsibilty to help them achieve that goal.
