Fiji Police have launched an investigation into a disturbing video showing a young boy being assaulted, with the Internal Affairs Department directed to urgently identify the individual involved.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said the department had been instructed to act quickly and determine whether the individual seen in the video is a police officer.
“The Internal Affairs Department has been directed to act quickly on identifying the individual, and if confirmed to be a police officer, to ensure the safety of the child and expedite necessary actions against the suspect,” Police said in a statement.
Tudravu said such behaviour would not be tolerated and assured that both disciplinary and criminal investigations would be pursued urgently.
Police have not provided further details on when or where the alleged assault occurred or the circumstances surrounding the video.
