A proud moment at the University of the South Pacific graduation yesterday was marked by both joy and heartbreak for Asinate Koroimata.

Ms Koroimata, who hails from Malolo, graduated with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Chemistry and Biology, becoming the first in her family to complete a university degree.

She dedicated her achievement to her parents, especially her late father, who passed away while she was completing her studies.

“This day would have made him proud,” she said.

She said her father had always encouraged her to complete her studies.

“My greatest wish was that my father could have been there to see me graduate.”

Ms Koroimata described her journey as emotional and challenging but said her faith and the support of her mother, brothers, family and friends kept her going.

More than 800 students graduated yesterday from various programs as part of the university’s two-day September graduation ceremonies.
