Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to building leadership and discipline among students through programs that go beyond the classroom.

He told the Queen Victoria School cadet passing-out parade this week that the students’ commitment and character during the parade linked the event to the broader national education agenda.

“The Coalition Government understands that discipline and leadership cannot be taught only in classrooms,” Mr Radrodro said.

“That is why, in the 2025–2026 National Budget, we have made a record $847million allocation to education, with more than $675million going directly to the Ministry of Education.

“This is the largest investment in Fiji’s education history, not just in buildings and salaries, but in people like you.”

Mr Radrodro said the Government would ensure schools like QVS have the support to sustain and grow programs that build character, like cadetship and leadership development.

He said the event demonstrated the kind of development the education system is aiming for.

“What you’ve done here is exactly the kind of growth we want to see across all of Fiji’s schools — confidence, courage, citizenship.

“Education must shape not only minds but values, and we are working to ensure more schools integrate scouting, cadet training, and service learning.

“Our curriculum rewards not just academic success, but citizenship and character that ensures students are prepared for life, not just for exams.”
